The founder and long time Board Chair of the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association (ANVCA), Maver Carey, President & CEO of The Kuskokwim Corporation (TKC), stepped down from her role as Chair of the Board effective September 1, 2016. Ms. Carey initially founded ANVCA in 2008, as a means to promote the best practices and networking for Village Corporations across Alaska. ANVCA has expanded membership and its mission since inception, under the guidance of Carey. The organization has been a top priority for both Maver and The Kuskokwim Corporation. The announcement letter, to fellow Board members, cited the need to “focus on TKC’s continued development and growth.” Ms. Carey will continue to serve as a Director on the Board.
Nathan McCowan, President & CEO of St. George Tanaq Corporation has been elected to serve as the ANVCA Board Chair under the reorganization. Mr. McCowan had previously served as Vice Chairman.
Other elected officers include Jana Turvey, President & CEO of Leisnoi, Inc. serving as ANVCA Vice Chair and Ron Philemonoff, CEO of the TDX Corporation serving as the Secretary/Treasurer.
